NotesBeaulieu will be celebrating its 41st Boatjumble on Sunday 22 April; to mark this impressive milestone, we have rummaged through the Beaulieu archives to find amazing pictures of the show’s early years.

Featuring photos of the very first Beaulieu Boatjumble in 1978, these snapshots show that fashions, cars and technology may have changed over four decades but this much-loved show still remains a nautical bargain-hunter’s paradise.

Whether you are looking for flags, ropes, lamps, winches, fenders, sailing dinghies or even full-size vessels, the pictures show that Beaulieu Boatjumble has always been the place to find them.

To mark this year’s landmark event children under 12 will be given free admission to the show for the first time, with a special reduced ticket price for teenagers.

It will also be a special anniversary for the event’s media sponsor Practical Boat Owner, which will celebrate its 50th birthday at the show. BHG Marine, which has just opened a new BHG Service Chandlery at the Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour, will also be celebrating its 70th anniversary.

Beaulieu Boatjumble offers hundreds of stands with countless boating bargains and the popular Trunk Traders feature will this year be given its own separate zone. It is the ideal opportunity for jumblers to clear their lockers, sheds and garages and sell unwanted nautical paraphernalia from their car boots.

It is also the place to gather nautical knowledge and back by popular demand is the Ask the Experts feature, where PBO’s marine industry specialists share their knowledge and answer showgoers’ questions. The schedule includes demonstrations for cooking on board, the art of anchoring, DIY, maintenance, repairs, how to read the skies, electronics and an RNLI lifejacket clinic.

Showgoers can see up-close a selection of new and used boats for sale in Boatmart, while Boatmall offers a wide selection of the latest maritime products from leading manufacturers.

For Beaulieu River mooring holders, an event-day shuttle bus will run from 9am to 6pm from the Beaulieu River Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour to the Beaulieu attraction.

Advance event tickets are on sale until 13 April at £8.70 an adult and £5 for 13 to 17-year-olds. Under-12s go free. Standard event tickets, which are available from 14 April or can be bought on the door, are £9.70 an adult and £6 for 13 to 17-year-olds. Under-12s go free.
