Notes> Renewal of official ‘Host County’ status for Dayinsure Wales Rally GB
> Conwy’s many attractions to be showcased to global TV audiences
> Highlighting north Wales’ position as the UK’s premier adventure destination
> Final 2017 competitive route to be announced in May

The organisers of Dayinsure Wales Rally GB are delighted to announce that Conwy County Borough Council has extended its highly successful support for the UK’s round of the FIA World Rally Championship.

Conwy Council has again been confirmed as the official Host County for Dayinsure Wales Rally GB. It is a multiple award-winning partnership that has now been extended for the 2017 WRC event, which will be staged in the legendary forests of north and mid Wales between 26-29 October.

Conwy has been a major driving force behind the success of the rally as part of the whole region’s reinvention – a transformation that resulted in north Wales being named among the world’s top places to visit in 2017 in Lonely Planet’s annual ‘Best in Travel’ list. Indeed, north Wales is the only UK destination to feature in the rankings with adventure attractions in the Conwy Valley receiving notable praise.

In recent years Conwy’s major towns – Colwyn Bay, Conwy and Llandudno – have hosted the rally’s official Ceremonial Start and Ceremonial Finish while its famous forests have staged many of the high speed special stages.

Although the competitive route for the 2017 Dayinsure Wales Rally GB will not be announced until May, confirmation of Conwy Council’s on-going involvement ensures that the world championship action will be back in the county in the autumn.

“Conwy Council has been a fantastic supporter of the event, and instrumental in bringing the benefits of a world championship event to the region,” said Ben Taylor, Dayinsure Wales Rally GB Managing Director. “As the official ‘Host County’ the county has featured extensively in recent rally routes gaining global TV exposure and bringing significant economic benefit to the region. More than that, though, the amazing backing that Conwy brings from the councillors, the executive and the fantastic events team, makes a vital contribution to the on-going success of the whole rally.”

“It has been a pleasure working with Wales Rally GB organisers over the last few years,” reported Councillor Graham Rees, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Marketing & Leisure. “Events are very important to us and we’re looking forward to welcoming another major spectacle to the area. Last year’s rally attracted 16,000 people between Llandudno and Colwyn Bay for the opening and closing ceremonies and we simply couldn’t afford to buy the media coverage that comes with it.”

Tickets for the 2017 Dayinsure Wales Rally GB will go on sale in the spring, when this year’s competitive route is announced. Full information can be found on the official www.walesrallygb.com website and via the event’s social media channels.
