UNDER 25s CHAMPIONSHIP AT COVENTRY BriSCA F1 Stock Car drivers under 25 years of age have a golden opportunity to showcase their potential and talent at Coventry Stadium on Saturday 5 September, host track for the Under 25s 2009 Championship race. The race carries sponsorship in cash and kind amounting to over £1,600, raised by stock car fanatic, painter and decorator Dave Leonard who has cajoled many fans and sponsors to donate sums ranging from £10 to over £500 from Coventry Stadium promotor Avtar Sandhu. The winner`s purse is a cool £500, while a novel lap leader bonus is another incentive to make every lap of the 330-metre oval count. F1 Stock Car Racing is a contact formula, so plenty of front bumper should be brought into play. Defending his title is Loughborough-based Lee Robinson who has already developed a hugely popular following among stock car fans, with his confident, dare-devil style of driving, taking on established names in the sport, such as National Points Champion Frankie Wainman Junior and World Champion Andrew Smith - and occasionally getting the better of them. A grid of 20 drivers is eligible to race in the Under 25s Championship, including Lee Fairhurst from Bolton, who recently won the BriSCA F1 Stock Cars European Championship; last year`s European Champion from Nottingham Daniel Johnson; Silsden`s Daniel Wainman, son of the legendary Frank Wainman Snr; and World Final qualifier Matthew Newson, who regularly travels from Norfolk to race on the Brandon oval. The growing number of competitors for this race proves how appealing the formula is to young men - and ladies. Let`s not forget Hayley Parkinson from Lancashire, who will be the only girl in the race. Hayley is fearless and exciting to watch. Winning is not beyond her and that would really cock a snoop at the young guns. Another of these young guns is Hayley`s own brother, Ike, who turned 17 on 15 August and will be the youngest driver on the grid. At the same meeting, another celebration will be taking place. The Ray Tyldesley Memorial meeting takes on a special significance, as it will be 20 years almost to the day that the popular 85 car driver won the prestigious BriSCA F1 World Final at Brandon in 1989. Ray`s loss is still felt by the BriSCA fraternity, who will come together on this Saturday in September to remember a man with a terrific sense of humour, joie de vivre and whose memory lingers on for meeting sponsor Iain Holden of TLC Group. "Ray sadly lost his life as the result of a motorcycle accident in 1989. This meeting and the Ray Tyldesley 85 Memorial Trophy gives us all the opportunity to celebrate Ray`s life and his contribution to stock car racing - the Racing Butcher is sorely missed," said Iain. "It is a privilege to be able to bring his fans, friends and relations together to recall those special memories we all have of Ray". Completing the programme are BriSCA F2 Stock Cars and Rebel Racers, First F1 race of the night is the Under 25s Championship at 7:00pm, with Rebels and F2s opening proceedings at 6:30pm. Admission: Adults £16.00; Concessions £11; Children 5 to 15 - £5; under fives free.
