ONE RACE IN MAY One Race in May Charity Kart Race & Auction. Raising funds for the Willen Hospice, the Anthony Nolan Trust and Somerset Gardens Volunteers. Daytona Kart Circuit, Milton Keynes, Sunday 31 May 2009. On the last Sunday of May, a group of friends and business owners determined to help credit crunch-hit charities will join journalists and surprise celebrity guests to battle it out on the racetrack for the prestigious "One Race in May" winners trophy and to raise cash for charity. The event will help fund some of UK`s most-needy charities: the Willen Hospice, providing vital service to people with life-limiting conditions; leukaemia charity the Anthony Nolan Trust; and London-based cancer support group Somerset Gardens Volunteers. Taking place on the fast International Circuit at Daytona Milton Keynes, this fantastic 4-hour endurance race will see up to 30 teams go head-to-head in Honda-powered Pro Karts, capable of over 70mph, in a Grand Prix-style format. After the trophy presentation and champagne celebrations, a selection of exclusive prizes, such as rare signed F1 memorabilia, golf and karting days and much more, will be auctioned during a special function, with all proceeds also going to charity. The event is a brainchild of a group of enthusiastic friends from Milton Keynes and London, led by Ian Estick, a local small business owner, who will be taking part in the London Marathon on 26 April. Ian said:"We`ve been talking for a long time about finding a way to contribute to those charities, which have helped our families and many others so much over the years. The dedication of their staff to helping people in ill health and tragic circumstances is incredible, even more so given the very limited funding they are receiving. "The present credit crunch means there is a shortfall in donations and we are determined to help them in any way we can. We know that there are plenty of karting fans in and around Milton Keynes, so we approached the Daytona circuit with a proposition of a charity race and their response was fantastic from day one." Jim Graham, the Sales Director of Daytona, commented: "We host plenty of races here at Daytona throughout the year, but this event is promising to be very special. We hope the funds raised will make a real difference to these charities and that those taking part have a blast in our karts." Ian added: "We will have a live band, great food for everybody and some entertainment for the kids, too. Soon we will also confirm a Celebrity Team and a Media Team, so if you, your friends or your work colleagues are looking for ways to contribute to charity in a fun way and with great company, then get in touch and join in!"
